The CSUDH Center for Service Learning, Internships & Civic Engagement (SLICE) is committed to facilitating and fostering quality experiential learning opportunities for students.

Community Engaged Teaching and Research (CETR)

The center for Service Learning, Internships, and Civic Engagement is currently in the process of evolving to the center for Community Engaged Teaching and Research. The purpose of this new focus is to provide support and resources to faculty with community engaged courses and research projects. This new focus emerged from a listening process campus-wide by the co-chairs of Pillar of the Community in 2023-24, the President's appointed committee to assess campus activities related to community engagement. Click here to learn more about CSUDH Strategic Plan.

The main findings from the listening process are:

· A lot of great CE activities are happening across campus, the majority of which are student-facing and/or not connected to teaching and research.

· Faculty are requesting more support and resources to connect their teaching and research locally with community organizations, business, schools, and government, and with the international community.

Dr. Maria Avila, who has a long history as a community organizer in Mexico and the US, and of working in the field of community engagement in several academic institutions is guiding this transitioning process in her role as Interim Director for Community Engaged Teaching and Research. See campus-wide announcement here.

More information on this transition coming soon.
